Civil Rights, Now!
From voices of moderation like Cesar Chavez and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to the more radical tactics of the Black Panthers and the Red Power movement, the iconic leaders of the 1960s and 1970s represented many approaches to securing civil rights for all Americans. This lesson plan allows students to study these tactics, as well as the persuasive writing and speaking styles, of some of the most riveting and effective leaders of the twentieth century through the lens of social action. Along the way students will also gain experience constructing a persuasive argument and presenting it to their peers.
